Lesson Plans for the Week of January 4-5

THIRD NINE WEEKS BEGINS!

Thursday–

  • Hand out graded reading logs and non-fiction task card grades (discuss)
  • Introduce Genius Hour and Passion Projects

What is Genius Hour? You Get to Have Your Own Genius Hour! Ideas for Genius Hour

  • Students will fill in a Google Form, which will give them ideas of interest to study (this form will be brought home so parents can help guide their child into a topic of study)

Hw: Be thinking of something you’re passionate about – something you’d like to create, solve, design, build, and learn more about (use the “idea list” to help you) and get PassionProject Introduction Letter signed

Friday-

  • Discuss reading hw (maps, charts, timelines, etc.)
  • We will watch a couple of videos that answer the question “Why have Genius Hour?”
  • Discuss various ways students can present their information, experiment, design, model, book, tri-board, poster, etc.

Monday –

  • Continue reviewing non-fiction text features & watch 2 videos
  • Complete non-fiction task cards **This is a grade.

Tuesday- 

  • Non-Fiction text features race
  • Review graphic organizers of text structure in nb and anchor charts

Hw: Study vocabulary words, read, and answer 1 comprehension question on your reading log

Wednesday- NON- FICTION #2 READING LOG DUE!

  • Hand out new reading homework
  • Take up non-fiction reading log #2
  • Finish Study Island lessons

Hw: Study vocabulary words and complete reading passage

Thursday– 

  • Quizlet Live with words on tomorrow’s test
  • Read “The Spider Curse” Drama
  • Answer close reading questions about drama

Hw: Study vocabulary and complete reading passage

Friday-

  • Vocabulary Test
  • View Arachne – short film
  • Complete Venn Diagram, comparing Arachne (our short film) to “The Spider Curse” drama

Monday –

  • Read novel
  • Introduce “The Flaming Sky”(the Hindenburg Disaster)
  • Watch “Behind the Scenes” video with the author of “The Flaming Sky”

Hw: Study vocabulary words (Go HERE to practice), read 20 minutes, and complete “The Golden Age of Ancient Greece” reading passage if you didn’t last week (due TUESDAY)

Tuesday – READING PASSAGE DUE!

  • Take up reading passage – “The Golden Age of Ancient Greece”
  • Read novel
  • “The Flaming Sky”
  • Video accounts of a witness to the Hindenburg disaster and a survivor
