Lesson Plans for the Week of 3/30-4/3 – Remote Learning

This week, students will be writing their very own fictitious story using the program we were introduced to last week, StoryJumper. Students will plan their stories out in the story map I posted on Google Classroom FIRST. Then, using that planning page, they will then construct their own fiction (can be fantasy or realistic fiction) story using StoryJumper.

Be sure and follow the detailed directions I’ve posted. By Friday, students should have a final draft with million $ words, description throughout the story, a setting, characters (protagonist and antagonist), an ongoing theme, a conflict, and a resolution. Stories should have a title, they can have a dedication page (like our book did last week), and should be checked over for correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. I’ve posted examples of themes and great transition resources on Google Classroom. StoryJumper will allow students to add colors, scenes, characters, speech bubbles, props, text boxes, and more.

I’m looking forward to reading all the stories. I will be checking them all week.

Stay safe and healthy, my writing heroes.

Lesson Plans for the Week of 2/17-2/21

This week, we will be finishing our novel, Max, and enjoying the heartwarming movie that accompanies the book. We are excited!

Homework: Be thinking of your Genius Hour topic. What interests you? What do you want to learn to do? What can you improve/what difference can you make in your community?

We will soon start Genius Hour (Passion Projects). This is an exciting time where students get to pick what they want to learn more about. This could be something they are interested in and want to learn more about (Pearl Harbor, Civil War Weapons, What did my grandpa do during the Vietnam war, Pangolin, Paris, Nobel Peace Prize, What is a Purple Heart, etc.) something new they want to learn how to do (how to play the guitar, how to crochet, how to best work Sudoku puzzles, etc.), or something they want to create (Legos, do an experiment, create a replica of the Eiffel Tower, write a play, create a new game for us to play, etc.).

Students will become an expert on their topic and creatively present their findings/new talents to their class. I always look forward to how much our students learn throughout this process.

More information to come home soon! Please talk with your child about a great topic that will interest him/her.
