Genius Hour presentations start this week. I’m so excited! Our students have learned so much, and I can’t wait for them to share their knowledge with their classmates. Your child will receive a slip stating their presentation date on it. Be sure and ask for that. Thank you for ensuring your child is ready to SHINE!

Lesson Plans for the Week of April 22-26

Your child should be adding finishing touches to his/her presentation and visual:/videos/tri board/poster/model, etc. and speech. Presentations are next week. Please have your child present the entire presentation for you and give constructive feedback. Please sign the letter (stating you have seen it), and return the bottom portion of this letter by this Thursday, April 25.

Monday- 

  • No School

Tuesday –

  • Context Clues Bell Ringer
  • Discuss “Composting” & Charlie Joe’s reading passages (grades are coming home today so ask to see them).

HW:

  • Present Genius Hour presentation for guardian and return note stating they have seen it.

Wednesday- 

  • “The Star-Spangled Banner” – in teams (bottle flipping)

HW:

  • Present Genius Hour presentation for guardian and return note stating they have seen it.

Thursday-

  • Genius Hour- final details, get students the day they will present next week

Friday- 

  • Genius Hour- final details (all links, videos, etc. work and are in place)

Monday- 

  • Hand back 4 Square Biography Posters (ask your child to see this) **Each student perused a biography book to learn about a person of his/her choice.
  • Begin “Text Structures” for “The Girl Who Lived Forever” (hyperdoc)

HW:

  • Complete “Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Extra Credit” reading passage **Prove answers! DUE THURSDAY!
  • Complete GIMKIT assignment “Academic Vocabulary #1” to practice vocabulary for THURSDAY’s test. Click HERE to study words.
  • Continue working on the presentation part of your Genius Hour.

Tuesday –

Friday- FIELD TRIP Sixth graders will be going to the Center for Earth & Space Science Education in Tyler. The bus will leave at 9:00 and return by 2:00

**I have shown many examples of finished projects and given expectations of presenting their answers to their driving question in front of the class. A note will come home soon with important information regarding presentations & expectations.

Lesson Plans for the Week of 8/27-8/31

We have almost 100% of our parents on Class Dojo now. Way to go!  Thank you. Be sure and download the app so you can see your child’s daily reports and messages. Feel free to use this to send a personal message to me if you have any questions or concerns. If you’re not signed up, ask your child for the form with his/her personal code so you can get signed up. This is how I will be communicating frequently with parents.

  • Hand out new vocabulary for Out of My Mind

**We will be starting a wonderful novel, Out of My Mind this week. This is a book about an eleven-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who cannot speak. Throughout the book, she overcomes and amazes her readers with her determination and strength. Melody is certainly an unforgettable character.

  • Introduce Sharon Draper (author of our novel)
  • Show Out of My Mind Trailer
  • Begin Cerebral Palsy Webquest
