  • Start benchmark review – today we’ll go over “Monkey Tales”

Hw: Finish analogy hw if you didn’t – due tomorrow

Wednesday- ANALOGY HW DUE!

  • Take up analogy hw
  • Hand out new reading passage “Back to First Grade”
  • Review benchmark – today we’ll discuss “Five Rings Unbroken”

Hw: Read Genius Hour topic for 20 minutes, work on presentation, and complete reading passage (due next Tuesday)

Thursday–

  • Benchmark review – today we’ll discuss the paired passage “Red Crab Invasion”/”Monarch Magic”

Hw: Read Genius Hour topic for 20 minutes, work on presentation, and complete “Back to First Grade” passage

Friday- 

  • Benchmark review – today we’ll discuss “Composting” and “From Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to Extra Credit”

Each day will include a game of some sort. The students were already asking me last week what games we are going to play. They remember all the games we played last year for review. This should be a fun and informative week that I’m looking forward to!

  • Finish “Scavenger Hunt” with partner (finding the claim, counterclaim, and rebuttal) in 2 opposing letters

THIRD NINE WEEKS BEGINS!

Thursday–

  • Hand out graded reading logs and non-fiction task card grades (discuss)
  • Introduce Genius Hour and Passion Projects

What is Genius Hour? You Get to Have Your Own Genius Hour! Ideas for Genius Hour

  • Students will fill in a Google Form, which will give them ideas of interest to study (this form will be brought home so parents can help guide their child into a topic of study)

Hw: Be thinking of something you’re passionate about – something you’d like to create, solve, design, build, and learn more about (use the “idea list” to help you) and get PassionProject Introduction Letter signed

Friday-

  • Discuss reading hw (maps, charts, timelines, etc.)
  • We will watch a couple of videos that answer the question “Why have Genius Hour?”
  • Discuss various ways students can present their information, experiment, design, model, book, tri-board, poster, etc.
